چکیده

Ferrimagnetic glass-ceramics are potential candidates for magnetic induction hyperthermia [1]. The aim of this work is the preparation and characterization of innovative bioactive ferrimagnetic glass-ceramics in the system SiO2– Na2O–CaO–P2O5–FeO–Fe2O3. These biomaterials contain different amounts of nanometric or sub-micrometric magnetite crystals, homogeneously distributed in an amorphous matrix. They show bioactivity properties, making them also suitable for bone substitutions. The influence of the chemical composition and processing condition (temperature, time, atmosphere) on the glassceramics microstructure and on their properties has been analysed. The specific power loss of these biomaterials varies in the range 20-65 W/g, in function of the glassceramic microstructure. The surface of these materials can be easily modified, in order to bind specific proteins for magnetic drug targeting.

Fe-Doped Sol-Gel Glasses and Glass-Ceramics for Magnetic Hyperthermia

This work deals with the synthesis and characterization of novel Fe-containing sol-gel materials obtained by modifying the composition of a binary SiO₂-CaO parent glass with the addition of Fe₂O₃. The effect of different processing conditions (calcination in air vs. argon flowing) on the formation of magnetic crystalline phases was investigated. The produced materials were analyzed from thermal...

Biocompatibility and Physical Properties of Doped Bioactive Glass Ceramics

Biocompatibility of a new bioactive glass composition for medical applications was evaluated with the addition of fluorides, such as CaF2 and MgF2, for the substitution of Na2O in the conventional bioactive glass composition (SiO2-CaO-Na2O-P2O5). Also, the physical properties of these glass ceramics were investigated. When B2O3 was added as a Na2O substitution, the thermal expansion coefficient...
